Kelly Jones Leventis was born in Portsmouth, VA, the second of six children. Prior to entering law school, Ms. Leventis was selected to join Teach for America, a national education organization committed to expanding educational opportunities for low-income students. She taught special education high school students in the Mississippi Delta for two years as a corps member with Teach for America.
Ms. Leventis began her law practice in Charleston. Between 2003 and 2007, her practice focused on education law and complex civil litigation, including construction, insurance coverage/bad faith, and professional negligence law. In 2007, Ms. Leventis matriculated at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where she was awarded the Zuckerman Fellowship.
Ms. Leventis is actively involved in the Charleston community. She has served as a member of the College of Charleston Partnerships in Education Committee and as a weekly volunteer teacher at Our Lady of Mercy Outreach Center on Johns Island. She is a member of the Leadership Charleston Class of 2005 and sits on the board for a local literary magazine.
Ms. Leventis and her husband, Henry Cabell Leventis, enjoy traveling throughout Latin America. They were married in Antigua, Guatemala in 2004. They reside in downtown Charleston.
